So why is our website named bondservantforchrist.blog and not myname.blog? Simple. We did not want to receive any accolades or compliments for sharing Jesus Christ with our readers. All glory and honor is God’s now and forever. To us, that is what being a bond servant for Christ means. It is all for Him.
So, what is a bond servant you might ask? Let’s look at Noah Webster’s definition. We like to use the 1828 version of Mr. Webster’s dictionary (WebstersDictionary1828.com) because it is the last published dictionary that contains scripture references. Mr. Webster defines bondservant as a slave; one who is subjected to the authority of another, or whose person and liberty are restrained.
If you search the term “bond servant” on BibleGateway.com, you will see many verses relating to the term. Paul described himself in his letter to the Romans as a bond servant.
Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle (special messenger, personally chosen representative), set apart for [preaching] the gospel of God [the good news of salvation],
Romans 1:1
In Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, he refers to all who preach the gospel as bond servants for Christ.
For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves [merely] as your bond-servants for Jesus’ sake.ote
2 Corinthians 4:5
James also referred to himself as a bond servant of Christ.
James, a bond-servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve [Hebrew] tribes [scattered abroad among the Gentiles] in the dispersion: Greetings (rejoice)!
James 1:1
These are two pretty good examples to follow, wouldn’t you agree? So in keeping with these and other disciples of Christ, we are merely bond servants that Jesus Christ bought and paid for by dying on the cross for forgiveness of sins for whoever believes in Him. Also, the Bible teaches us in Matthew that we can only serve one master. We have chosen Jesus Christ as mine.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].”
Matthew 6:24
